Arthur H. Avedon is the Educational Program Director for The Dara Lynn Foundation. Having spent 56 years in the field of education, he has been recognized for his outstanding abilities to create and implement innovative educational programs. Starting as an elementary school teacher of both gifted and emotionally challenged students he was recognized by the NYC United Federation of Teachers and the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation for his work raising awareness of this disease. Progressing from a teacher at a special service school to Chief Administrator, Senior staff member and advisor to numerous Chancellors and Deputy Chancellors. Never losing sight of the impact that exceptional teachers, administrators and programs have on children's development he went on to develop programs in School Leadership with an emphasis on practical internship experiences at Touro University, becoming Assistant Chair of the Graduate School, School Leadership Program. Eventually he was asked by the University President to form a team to open a Graduate Center in Education in Miami, Florida. This was done with the cooperation and partnership of the then Superintendent of the Miami Dade School System.
Having fulfilled that mission and seeking new challenges, he turned his attention to the area of Early Intervention. He became Owner, President and Executive Director of a successful early intervention agency for the past eight years. Ever mindful of the needs that challenged youngsters face he accepted the challenge of becoming the Educational Program Director for the Dara Lynn Foundation.
